Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
There was a point where I asked the Lord if this were really possible. Can I really have problems and have peace at the same time? Is it possible to really not worry about something that I have already prayed about and truly be able to rest my mind and my body---for real? If so, what is the key, how can I attain this for myself and it be genuine?
I know some believe that it is wrong to question God. Asking God questions is not wrong, it is a way of seeking Him, and if you have faith that He will answer you--He will.
While I sought the Lord on this, He caused me to realize that Yes, this peace is ABSOLUTELY possible! The problem is that we sometimes want to have some form of control over the problem or issue that we have prayed about. We think that we should still be able to worry about it just a little bit, talk about it a little bit, and ponder on it just a little bit.
Because our humanness doesn't understand how God's peace operates, we can misinterpret the peace of God for "ignoring" the problem when in actuality, His peace comes to take the place of the problem so that your mind can rest from the stress and pressure that problems can bring in life. It comes to relieve you of this so that your faith will carry you until the solution shows up.
The Lord revealed to me that most people want to handle their problems "their way" and that prevents them from experiencing peace. Peace is meant to take you off duty from your problems while God does your shift. After you have prayed and surrendered the issue to God, you must resist, in Jesus' name, the temptation to entertain the "what-ifs" and "what abouts."
In those times, make a conscious effort to think about specific scriptures that build up your spirit and keep you focused on the solution. Focus on the outcome that you have asked God for, and by faith thank God for working it out for you even before the solution manifests----that's what real faith is!

The Faithful Husband
“Return, O backsliding children,’ says the LORD; ‘for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion. I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.” Jeremiah 3:14-15 (NKJV)
One day, I pondered on the fact that God says that He's married to the backslider. At the same time, I thought to myself that He also said that nothing could ever separate us from His love (Rom. 8:39). I asked the Lord, "Even though You said You're married to the backslider, what good is loving one and remaining committed to one who has forsaken their commitment to You if they will still die and go to hell?" "How is the love of God beneficial in a person's life in this case?"
God is so kind and patient, and always willing to teach us and not leave us in ignorance. When a person is backslidden, at one point they had accepted Christ into their heart and were living for Him, but then they turned their back on God and went astray. This was the Lord's answer to me (I'll share it in these terms):
"I love the backslider so much that even when you turn your back on me, I won't turn my back on you. When you've forsaken your commitment with me, I'm faithful to keep my commitment with you. Although you have left me, I am still with you. My Spirit is with you, pleading with you to return to me, to live for me, and to do My will. I love you whether you deserve it or not. Nothing you do will ever change that, no matter how bad. My love is with you for the purpose is drawing you back to me to live for me."
This was absolutely overwhelming to me. More than my mind could understand. The love of God is always there to point us back to God when we have lost our way and have gotten out of His will. God is always trying to get the backslider's attention to get you back in place. If you are backslidden, your life is currently out of balance and God is trying to help you get back on track. He loves you and has not given up on you, so don't you give up! It's not too late and you are not out of His reach. He has not changed His mind about you.
You can start by praying this simple prayer:
Lord Jesus,
Forgive me for sinning against You and turning away from You. Cleanse me from all unrighteousness. I return to You this day, and ask you to live in my heart each and every day. Thank you for restoring my life today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, God has given you a clean slate and a fresh start in life. He does not remember anything you have done wrong before this point. And, if you make a mistake don't run from Him, run to Him. He will restore you.
Find a good church where you can learn more about Him and grow and develop spiritually as a person.

Do It On Purpose!
Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus...
Hebrews 10:19
Why does it sometimes feel as if it's difficult to access the presence of God? Why is it that when you're praying or worshipping, you feel like you haven't "broken through?" Why do we experience frustration and discouragement in worship and prayer?
Does any of this sound familiar? I will be honest and admit that I've been there before---quite a few times!
Let me share a testimony:
I was driving to a prayer meeting. While I was in the car, I asked the Lord to help us (the participants who would be there) to be aware of His presence as we prayed and worshipped that evening. As I prayed that night, it began to feel like a routine prayer. I thought to myself "If I can just focus and press in to the presence of God, I'll break through this feeling." Shortly after, God interrupted my thought process and spoke into my spirit. I will share it with you like this:
If you are a blood washed Christian, You have been granted access to enter into the presence of God. The only thing that hinders you from experiencing God's presence is you. When you pray, shed your thoughts, the cares of the day, the little nagging thoughts that make you feel as if you're not praying or worshiping "the right way." Know you can BOLDLY enter into God's presence because of the blood of Jesus that has been applied to your life.
When this revelation hit my spirit at prayer that evening, it was as if an explosion took place. It not only affected me, but the others who were praying along with me. The presence of God became so strong!
The next time you're praying or worshipping, realize that God not only hears you but you have a one-on-one audience with Him, and He's hanging on your every word. Know that you're at the very throne of God with angels alongside you--joining in. Realize that you have all of God's attention and He is enjoying the time that you are spending with Him.
With this in mind, be purposeful in your prayers and in your worship. Pray with faith and the confidence that you are ALREADY in the presence of God. Think about what you want to say to God. Praise on purpose, pray on purpose, worship on purpose, thank Him on purpose!!! Be excited about spending time with God. It won't be time wasted, but time well spent!
Entering into God's presence is one of the benefits of being a Christian. It is not something that we have to "press in" to or "break though" to. You simply enter into His presence because you have been granted access as His child by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:19

Get Rid of the Little Foxes!
"Catch us the little foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes." Song of Solomon 2:15
I was taught by my spiritual father that backsliding is not a "blow out" it's a "slow leak." To explain it in a practical sense: a person does not decide out of the blue to quit their job, leave their family, or to take their life. These are examples of situations that began as "little foxes." The little foxes are often disguised as "innocent" passing thoughts that agree with your emotions at the time. These thoughts sometimes come in the form of ungodly suggestions that provide superficial comfort and human justification. Although you may know inwardly that these are not godly thoughts, you may still toy with them and chuckle to yourself thinking that they're not serious. In reality, these little foxes are meant to woo and seduce you into demonic traps that are meant to destroy your life.
What happens is the enemy plants seeds into your mind in the form of thoughts (the little foxes). These foxes are in disguise, and not taking them seriously only allows them to grow bigger. After a period of time, these little foxes have produced BIG issues in your life. For example, let's say a person has been delivered from alcoholism for years. This person comes home after a stressful day of work and a thought comes to mind, "It sure would be nice to have a cold beer." Three weeks later, the person gets into a heated argument with a spouse and this thought comes to mind, "I could really use a drink." Then, while relaxing and watching TV, a Budweiser commercial comes on! These are real situations that happen to everyone and different ways (if we would be real). It's how we deal with them that determines the outcome. Dealt with the wrong way, it won't be long before this individual finds him or herself in pulling up to a bar.
So, how do you get rid of the little foxes? I'm glad you asked. 2 Corinthians 10:5 reminds us to "cast down arguments and anything that lifts itself above the word of God and to bring it into the obedience of Christ." Meaning the moment we recognize that the thoughts we're thinking are against what God's word says, we are to reject them and not receive them. Those are the times to speak the word to the enemy, and remind Him that God has ALL power in your life! James 4:7 says "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." Turning to the word of God will help you submit to God and resist the devil. I encourage you to read and study your bible--- especially if you are a Christian. Without the word of God, you are useless against the enemy.
It's not to late to get rid of the little foxes......Begin by putting on the armor of God. Ephesians 6:10-18

Turn The Tables!
Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies.
Psalm 103:1-4
I was sitting alone in my car one day as I read this set of scriptures. Suddenly, I began to understand its meaning in an entirely different light than I had before. David was speaking these very words to himself. It wasn't that he was voluntarily praising God, he was giving a command to his flesh; his humanness; his mind, will, and emotions. He was speaking to his own soul saying, "Whether you feel like it or not, whether things are going well or not--YOU bless the Lord with everything that is in you! Don't forget the things that God has done for you; how he forgave your sins, healed you when you were sick, and protected you in dangerous situations. He continues to show you kindness and mercy, even until this day!"
Often, we get caught up in the routine of life and we begin to focus on what's not happening for us and what's not going our way. When our focus is not on God, it's easier to become self-centered and inward focused. I believe David, when writing this, may have been tempted to fall into this same trap, but decided to turn the tables by commanding his soul to praise God and to remember what the Lord had done for Him.
As I read these scriptures that day in my car, I took on the same mindset and made the devil out of a liar by giving God the honor and recognition He is due for what He has done, and continues to do in my life! You can decide to do the same today. And in turn, your spirit will be encouraged, you will have peace of mind, and know what it feels like to walk in victory!

Praise....The Latest Fad in Fashion!
"To console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified." Isaiah 61:3
I can recall a time in my life when I felt as if I was beginning to be depressed--for no apparent reason! It seemed as if a cloud of gloom and hopelessness all of a sudden came over me. This went on for a couple of days. I thought it was nothing more than a lingering mood swing. Then, it would not leave. It felt so heavy. I began feeling like I wanted to stay home in bed and not be around anyone. It was as if I was locked in a personal prison and as much as I wanted to break free, I didn't know how. In the midst of this frightening experience, God so graciously brought these words to mind, found in the scripture listed above, "the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness." God wanted me to praise Him!? As ridiculous as it seemed in my finite mind, I knew I had nothing to lose -- plus I was desperate! I wanted to shake loose this feeling of doom and gloom. I started with shallow "hallelujah's" until they evolved into into hearty "hallelujah's" and "glory to God!" It was not long after this solo "praise party" began that I felt the entire atmosphere of where I stood began to shift. I felt light, free, lifted, and liberated! Woo hoo! I was back!!!
Psalm 22:3 teaches us that God inhabits the praises of His people. To put it simply, where God's praises are, there He is. You put on the garment of praise by verbally acknowledging the goodness of God. When we put on the garment of praise, we put on the presence of God. In the presence of the Lord, there is fullness of joy! (Psalm 16:11) Are you in need of joy? Then, whip out that garment of praise and get busy bringing God on the scene! You now have the key.

Create & Renew!
"Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. " Psalm 51:10
Looking at this scripture more closely, you realize that the word create is a verb. It means to develop mentally or spiritually. This denotes that there's a process to obtaining a clean heart. To renew means to start over; to refurbish. This word is also a verb. When something is renewed, the old is done away with so that there may be a fresh start or new beginning. Learn to have patience with yourself while God is working on you. You are a miracle in progress, therefore, the process is important. The good news is when you pray this scripture, the process begins for you! As the days roll by, you'll be able to say, "I may not be where I wanna be, but thank God I'm not where I used to be!" You'll realize that your heart is beginning to change and a right spirit is being renewed or developed within you. In other words, you'll find yourself saying no to some things that you used to say yes to. It's apart of the development process. I encourage you to pray this scripture for yourself, expect God to do it for you, and watch the effect it has on your life. Let God develop a new you today! Be blessed.
